The daylong event was aimed to instill managerial acumen in the students outside classrooms by way of various soft skill based activities where all students and faculty members were in attendance. In his welcome address, Dr. Debarshi Mukherjee HOD DoBM expressed that a manager is expected to demonstrate higher level of performance and deliberations under trying situations to handle a wide array of business problems. Very often it has been observed that despite having gone through best of the books and texts students are found wanting in areas of application of theoretical underpinnings into practice. Steep learning curve is the key to scale corporate ladder where besides conceptual clarity one would need various other assets like people skills and articulation ability. Prof. Satyadeo Poddar Dean Faculty of Arts & Commerce explained to the students that given this tough mandate of today’s corporate environment, the department has embarked on a journey of holistic development of the students where students would organize, manage and control the event thus paving the first step towards shouldering bigger responsibilities in near future. Study of business management not only teaches the traits of functional leadership and articulation but it also inducts entrepreneurial aspects like fund raising skills in the young minds so that any venture receives a sustainable future. The entire schedule of Purvottaran 2017 was managed by the funds raised by the students which are quite a commendable effort. The faculty members who have arduously trained the students played the role of a facilitator by extending necessary guidance however the detailed operational planning at the micro level is managed by the students.
