VC's Message

From its humble beginnings as the Post-Graduate Wing of Calcutta University in 1976, to becoming a state University in 1987, and finally attaining the status of a Central University in 2007, Tripura University has embarked on a remarkable journey of growth and excellence. This transformative evolution reflects our unwavering commitment to providing quality education and fostering innovation in the realms of academics and research, especially in this serene and culturally rich state of Tripura.

Nestled in a zero-pollution zone, the University’s campus offers a picturesque and tranquil environment, ideal for nurturing young and inquisitive minds. Tripura University proudly embraces its role in preserving and promoting the diverse cultural heritage of the state, including its indigenous art forms, folk traditions, and oral histories, alongside its conventional academic responsibilities.

Currently, the University houses five faculties, 45 departments, and 15 Centres. This inclusive approach underscores our dedication to reaching every corner of the region with the transformative power of education.

Our vision for the future includes significant campus expansion and the integration of modern facilities such as ICT-enabled classrooms in all departments, additional hostels for men, women, and research scholars, upgraded canteen and guest house facilities, and enhanced accommodation for both faculty and staff. We are also focused on adopting advanced technological tools and multimedia modes to enrich the teaching-learning process. To keep pace with the evolving demands of the modern era, the University is progressively transitioning to e-governance, ensuring efficient, accurate, and environmentally sustainable administrative practices.

With the continuous support from all the stack holders Tripura University has introduced teaching learning process after revising the course curricula form undergraduate to Ph.D. level as per National Education Policy – 2020. We have also made substantial progress in recruitment and filling up of vacant positions of both teaching and non-teaching staff, conducted Convocation and regularised the academic calendar. I would like to acknowledge the support and help from all the members of University Community, University Grant Commission and Ministry of Education, Government of India.

As we move forward, Tripura University remains steadfast in its mission to empower the people of this region through education, innovation, and cultural preservation, fulfilling its role as a beacon of knowledge and progress in this landlocked state.
