Brief Profile of the Department

The Department of Material Science and Engineering is one of the new teaching and research departments of Tripura University (A Central University), started its journey in 2016, included in the XII Five Years Plan, sanctioned by UGC. This department offers four-semester ‘M. Tech’ programme in ‘Material Science and Engineering’ (intake capacity of 17 students) and Ph.D. Programme in ‘Material Science and Engineering’. This unique stream in engineering helps students to gain technical knowledge of various kinds of materials like metals, semiconductors, ceramics, polymers and composites through material characterization and its structure – property relationships. Also, students gain in-depth knowledge on various kinds of materials for engineering applications in critical industrial sectors, energy and electronics. The emphasis is on imparting quality education to the students and research. The Department has received external projects / research grants from funding agencies such as DST, SERB, IERP- GBPNISHED, UGC-DAE-CSR.

At present, Department of Material Science and Engineering has three faculty members with research experience in the areas of ceramic processing, nanomaterials for energy storage and harvesting, utilization of industrial waste and additive manufacturing. The faculty members have also published the research work in various international journals (SCI)

The students of the department are encouraged to participate in various national events and competitions. The student team of the department mentored by the faculty also reached the finals of Smart India Hackathon-2019 (Hardware edition).
