UGC-SPECIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME (SAP) :

Department of Economics Tripura University

Introduction:

University Departments were carefully selected on the basis of their work, academic achievements and viable potential for further development for financial assistance under UGC’s Special Assistance Programme (SAP). The essence and primary aim of the scheme is combination of teaching and research to encourage collaborative research.

The Department of Economics, Tripura University with dynamic and energetic faculty members, UGC SAP-DRS-I was awarded for financial assistance during 2011 to 2016. Date of implementation in phase-I was 01.04.2011 onwards. On the basis of the work during DRS- I period, the award was further upgraded to DRS II for five more years with effect from 01.04.2018 to 31.03.2023 with the following thrust area identified “Development of North East India with special focus on Tripura”.

E.Achievements During Phase-I

  1. Integrated Masters Degree (IMD) Programme in Economics has been introduced in 2011.
  2. The curriculum for the Undergraduate programme run in the affiliated colleges of Tripura University has been revised in 2014; the syllabus for the Integrated Masters Programme has also been revised in the CBCS framework.
  3. New PG syllabus from 2015 with CBCS has been introduced.
  4. Examination reforms last made with special features:
  5. Semester System has been introduced for the Post Graduate programme in 2008; while the same has been done for the Undergraduate programme in 2014.
  6. The Ph. D programme has been revised. Candidates are enrolled through an admission test. The new Ph. D rules and regulations, 2014 requires defence of the thesis in an open viva-voce.

  1. New PG syllabus from 2019 with CBCS has been introduced.
  2. 3 Day National Seminar “Development Paradigm: the Emerging Policy Issues with Special Reference to the North Eastern States of India’ was conducted during 24-26 April, 2019.
  3. Field Trip carried out by Department Faculty members
  4. One Visiting Fellow Prof. Pranab Kumar Chattopadhyay, Dept. of Economics & Politics, Visva Bharati, West Bengal.
  5. One Advisory Committee meeting held on 16.03.2019
  6. One Project Fellow engaged as per UGC norms from 6th January, 2020

K.(a) Teaching lab./equip./new Facilities Created:

  • Books purchase worth of Rs. 1 lac only in the related thrust area
  • Two Laptops and one Desktop got repaired

L.Other activities:

  • An Educational tour carried out by Department Faculty members and all the research scholars of the departments on Dumboor.

M.Tentative Work Plan for the year 2018-19 (DRS-II):

Tentative Work Plan for the year 2018-19 is placed before the members and the same has been unanimously has accepted.

  1. First Advisory committee meeting may be held in the month of July, 2018
  2. A National Seminar titled ‘Development Issues of Social Sector in North East India with special focus on Health and Gender’. Proposed list of the resource persons to be invited

  3. Books may be purchase for SAP Departmental Library for research purpose within one financial year.

Two visiting fellow may be invited during the current financial year. Name of the visiting fellows will be decided later on after consultation in the Departmental Meeting depending on the requirement.
