Brief Profile of the Department

The Department of Information Technology at the Tripura University has been started with the objective of promoting research and development, industrial consultancy, and teaching in the frontier areas of Information Technology. The Department offers a unique combination of courses and project that helps the students to cope with the recent advancements in the computer industry and information technology. The Department currently offers Doctor in Philosophy (Ph.D), 2 year M.Tech in Information Technology (IT) and 2 year Masters in Computer Application (MCA) programmes. Previous to AY 2020-2021, MCA program was of 3 years duration.

It was initially started as "School of Information Technology & Computer Science" established in 2002 and introduced the BCA and MCA courses. It was under the Directorate of Professional Studies (DPS) in Tripura University. In 2009 it converted into "Department of Information Technology" of Tripura University (A Central University). Latest laboratory facilities are available. There are Programming Lab, System Lab, Network Lab, Microprocessor and Electronics Lab etc. Later the 3 year BCA course was discontinued from 2015. The last batch of BCA thereby passed out in 2018. The 2 year M.Tech in Information Technology (IT) was started in 2019. Still all the affiliated colleges running the 3 year B.Sc (IT) and BCA under the University are academically looked after from the department under its Board of Under Graduate Studies.

Presently both the PG courses i.e. 2 years M.Tech in IT and 2 years MCA allow students of varied UG degrees to join the stream of Information Technology.

  • To cater to the demand for upskilling and reskilling under the 'Digital India' mission for the nation as a whole and the northeastern region in particular.
