DEPARTMENT HEADBrief Profile of the Department
The Department of Fine Arts, Tripura University started its trip in 2009 at Govt. College of Art and Craft, Lichubagan, Agartala with few Guest Lecturers. In the year 2011, it has been shifted to Tripura University in the Open Air Theatre room of Tripura University, Day Care Centre and partly Energy Park subsequently. Finally, the department has shifted to Academic Building – II (ground floor) in 2016. The Department is offering an MFA in Drawing & Painting and Modelling & Sculpture. The MFA program is designed with 4(four) semester courses in the CBCS pattern. The intake capacity is 26 which is divided among the Drawing & Painting and Modelling & Sculpture in 16:10. The basic concept of this program is studio based work where the Department has separately arranged Drawing & Painting and Modelling & Sculpture section. The number of Faculty members is 04(four) out of sanctioned posts 05(five). The syllabus pattern has been made up to date at par with that of other Central Universities of India. The students of this Department admitted from different parts of India like West Bengal, Bihar, Andaman & Nicobar as well as the North-Eastern Region.
The Department offers Ph.D. program and the same is started in the 2014-15 session. There are 06(six) nos. Research Scholars are registered in the Doctoral Research program and the main focus of the research program is mostly on the issues of local and glocal art and crafts and the searching for the identity of the rare or dying tribal, folk and overall traditional practices in this region.
The Faculty members of this Department are very much energetic and creative in all respect and they are always dedicated to motivate the students towards the new trends through the expedition of their artworks. Every Faculty member having sound knowledge in his/her own respective area and presentation or participation is exceptionally accepted in national and international different visual programs. Moreover, the Department used to organize an annual art exhibition in each year for the promotion of the students throughout their art activities. The Department has organized National and International level workshop and exhibition with the collaboration of Lalit Kala Akademi, Indira Gandhi Rastriya Manav Sangrahalaya, etc.
Due to the project based program, the Department is frequently hiring Project Scholars as per specializations of the particular area and there is a scope to utilize their expertise in the further research program as the Faculty Members having the projects from the following Funding Agencies:
- TTAADC (Khumulwang Museum),
- University Grants Commission (UGC),
- Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR),
- Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR),
- Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India
- Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts (IGNCA)
