Research Group
Details of Research groups
- Dr. S. K. Sil (Group Leader), Mrs Shilpi Saha (JRF), Mr. Sandip Roy Sarkar (JRF). Mr. Satyapriya Roy (JRF), P Bhowmik (JRF), Miss Susmita Saha (JRF), Mr.Partha Saha (JRF), The research interest includes studies on human genetic diversity in Indian population specially in northeastern population with special reference to HLA diversity and haemoglobinopathies. Currently the group has undertaken collaborative work regarding molecular epidemiology and genetic diversity of hepatitis B virus in Tripura. Chemotherapeutic properties of local medicinal plants against cancer cell lines, especially resistant cell lines, are also being investigated.
- Dr. D. Maiti (Group Leader), Mr. Bhaskar Bhattacharjee (JRF), Mr. Asish Singha (JRF),Mr.Rahul Debnath (JRF), Mr.Debabrata Majumder (JRF). Our laboratory will use rodents as leukemia models to understand functions of immune cells in leukemic condition. We will induce leukemia by introducing N-N’ Ethylnitrosourea in rodents by using different growth factors. Our lab will focus to activate the immune cells for the immunotherapeutic purpose. In disease conditions the abnormalities of the internal environment (both in bone marrow and peripheral blood) will be studied in our lab. Expression of different genes and their signaling process in leukemia cell line will also be studied. The effect of different plant extract collected from north east states of India, mainly from Tripura will be used to observe the biological activity specifically against leukemia.
- Dr. Dipayan Choudhuri (Group Leader), Ms. Tapasi Bhattacharjee (JRF) Mr.Balaram Sutradhar (JRF),Ms Purnajita Sen (JRF), Ms Jahnabi saha (JRF), Ms Nabamita Nath (JRF), Mr.sandeep Das(JRF),The group works on reproductive toxicity of heavy metals and its amelioration through antioxidants, obesity and associated cardio-metabolic disorders, cardio pulmonary risk profile of different groups of population
- Dr. Sudipta Pal (Group Leader), Mrs. Chaitali Sarkar (JRF), Mr. Surajit Bhattacharjee (JRF) . Mr.Kanu Sil (JRF), Miss Pritha Das (JRF),The major thrust area of research of this group is biochemical toxicology. Studies involve exposure of different certain environmental toxicants especially metals and earth elements on biochemical parameters especially those parameters related to oxidative stress. Overexposure of such metals may produce adverse effects on human health. Tissue specific toxicity will be assessed by monitoring different enzymes and biochemical parameters related to oxidative stress. Metal toxicity may alter tissue metabolic activities through generation of ROS. Reactive oxygen species cause oxidative damage to cellular components including DNA, tissue proteins, fatty acids etc. So it is intended to investigate whether those metals alter metabolism in terms of oxidative stress and other biochemical parameters and enzyme activities that are closely related to metabolic alteration of the body.
