Details of Conservation Workshops/ Seminars/Awareness Programmes/ Tattvabodha Lecture Series held during the last three years:

  • Five Days Workshop on “Preventive Conservation of Manuscripts” ,16th - 20th January, 2017
  • Manuscriptlogy and Paleography Workshop, 2010: Fifteen Days’ Workshop on “Manuscriptology & Paleography” was organised on the auspices of Dept. of History, TU from 23rd-7th August, 2010 before the Centre came into being.
  • Preventive Conservation Workshop, 2011:
    a. Five Days’ Basic Level Workshop on “Awareness and Preventive Conservation of Manuscripts”
    b. The Workshop started from 25th of April & continued up to 29th April, 2011.
    c. 30 persons including Librarians of different Libraries of Tripura, Curators and Technical Persons from Tripura State Museum, State Archives & Tripura Legislative Assembly, Major Repositories of Tripura, Private collection owners, Research Scholars from Dept. of History, Sanskrit, Bengali were trained.
    d. The librarians are doing preventive conservation work at their own libraries with the help of MCC, Tripura University. The MCC is also taken up the Preventive Conservation work in State Museum, State Archives in collaboration with Govt. of Tripura. The Research Scholars of different departments are doing post survey work with the MCC. The repositories also come to know about the preventive conservation techniques and now they are implementing it in their own houses with the help of MCC.
  • Tattvabodha Lecture:
    Tattvabodha Lecture programme held on 2nd May, 2011 at Tripura University on “Reflection of Indian society and culture in English Manuscripts”. Prof. Ranjit Sen from Calcutta University was the main Speaker.
  • Awareness Programme of Manuscripts:
    Awareness programme on “Prevention & Conservation of Manuscripts” at Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya, Udaipur, South Tripura on 8th of August, 2011.
  • Tattvabodha Lecture:
    b. Tattvabodha Lecture held on 26th September, 2011 at Govt. Degree College, Dharmanagar, North Tripura on “Manuscript and Ancient Indian Literature”, Prof. Sitanath Dey from Dept. of Sanskrit, Tripura University was the main speaker.
  • Awareness Programme of Manuscripts:
    a. Awareness programme on “Prevention & Conservation of Manuscripts” at Govt. Degree College, Dharmanagar, North Tripura on 26th of September, 2011.
    b. Awareness programme on “Prevention & Conservation of Manuscripts” at Michael Madhusudan Dutta College, South Tripura on 15th of December, 2011.
  • National Seminar: a. Three Days’ National Seminar on “History of Tripura as reflected in the Manuscripts”. The Seminar started from 19th January and continued upto 21st January, 2012 at the auspices of MRC & MCC, Tripura University.
    b. 25 Research Papers were presented by the eminent Scholars and Academicians not only from India but also from Dhaka University. Bangladesh. The Resource person came from University of Kolkata, North Bengal University, Bihar University, Rabindra Bharati University, Assam University, Varanasi, Manipur, Silchar and also from differnt Institutions of Tripura.
    c. Large no. of participants were actively participated in the Seminar including the Research Scholars of Various Departments, Manuscript Repositories from all over Tripura, Technical Persons, Librarians from different Libraries were actively attended the technical sessions and discussions. Through this they had come to know the different aspects of the Seminar.
    d. The 25 research papers presented by the eminent scholars in the seminar will shortly going to publish by the MRC & MCC, Tripura University after going through the editing by the panel of experts. The papers are now returned to the scholars for correction and editing.
  • Preventive Conservation Workshop, 2012:
    a. Five Days’ Workshop on “Preventive Conservation of Manuscripts.”
    b. The Workshop started from 30th April & continued upto to 4th May, 2012.
    c. 35 persons including Librarians of different Libraries of Tripura, Curators and Technical Persons from Tripura State Museum, State Archives & Tripura Legislative Assembly, Major Repositories of Tripura, Private collection owners, Research Scholars from Dept. of History, Sanskrit, Bengali were trained.
    d. Participants from North Eastern States like Kamalanagar, Mizoram, Tai Ahom Institute, Moranhat, Assam, Guwahati University, Librarians from Lady Brabourne College, Kolkata, Assam University, Silchar were present in the Workshop.
    e. The major highlight of the Workshop was the participation of the different tribal communities of Tripura specially the Mog & the Chakmas where a large number of Manuscripts are lying under their custody. The Mog people representing from remote villages of Manu Bankul, Satchand, Shilachari Sabroom, South Tripura & the Chakma people are from Pencharthal, Damcharra, Nalkata, Unakoti. Few Buddhist monks from Dhamma Dipa, Sabroom were also actively participated in the Workshop. The Awareness Programme organized by MRC & MCC at Pencharthal, Unakoti District is possible because of the Changma Sahitya Fuu, a Chakma Literary Research & Publication. Another Awareness programme is yet to be organized in the Mog village of Manu Bankul, Sabroom South Tripura with the help of Mog Socio Cultural Organisation.
    f. The technical persons are doing preventive conservation work at their own respective places with the help of MCC, Tripura University. The MCC is also taken up the Preventive Conservation work in State Museum, State Archives, D.M & Collectors office where manuscripts of different temples are preserved in collaboration with Govt. of Tripura. The students of different departments are doing post survey work with the MCC. The repositories also come to know about the preventive conservation techniques and now they are implementing it in their own houses with the help of MCC.
    g. This Workshop has been very much appreciated by the local as well all national print & electronic media. Few articles were published in reputed websites based on the Work of MRC & MCC in the entire Tripura State specially highlighting the Awareness Programme at Pencharthal, Unakoti District. The articles are attached with this Feedback Form.
  • Awareness Programme of Manuscripts:
    a. Awareness programme on ‘Conservation of Manuscripts’ on 24th August, 2012( Friday) at Pencharthal Town Hall in collaboration with Changma Sahitya Fuu, Chakma Literary Research & Publication, Pencharthal, Unakoti.
    b. This Awareness Programme has been highly appreciated by the Local as well National Media. Media Houses like Anandabazar Patrika, The Telegraph, PTI, Zee News and others covered this news tremendously.
  • Awareness Programme of Manuscripts:
    One mini awareness camp held at Khumulwng, Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council on 13th of September, 2012. 30 numbers of participants (mainly from Tripuri tribal community) had participated in that programme.
  • Preventive Conservation Workshop, 2013:
    a. Five Days' Workshop on "Preventive Conservation of Manuscripts" started from 12th March & continued up to 16th March, 2013. Prof. Anjan Kumar Ghosh, Ho’ble Vice Chancellor, T.U. was present at the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries including Sri Kishore Ambuly, Pricipal Secretary, Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of Tripura, Sri Bikach Chowdhury, Prof Satyadeo Poddar were also present in the Inaugural Programme.
    b. The most crucial part of the Workshop was the participation of the different tribal communities of Tripura like the Mog, the Chakmas, the Tripuri’s. Some Manipuri people also attended the Workshop where large number of Manuscripts are lying under their custody. Owner of around 60 manuscripts in tribal language including Chakma and Mog participated along with the Librarians of different Libraries of Tripura, Curators and Technical Persons, Private collection owners, Research Scholars from Dept. of History, Sanskrit, Bengali were also trained. Few participants were from North Eastern States like Mizoram, Assam, Guwahati.
    c. Renowned technical persons around the country such as Mr. P. Perumal from Saraswati Mahal Library, Thanjavore, Tamilnadu, Mrs Malobika Ghosh from National Library, Kolkata, Vibhash Kumar from Patna State Museum has given their valuable lessons to the participants about the Conservation of Manuscripts.
    d. As a part of the Workshop One Awareness Programme cum Valedictory Programme was organized by MRC & MCC at Santirbazar, South Tripura District in collaboration with the Mahamuni Welfare Organisation, Manu Bankul, Sabroom on 16th March, 2013. Prof. Dipti. S. Tripathi, Hon’ble Director, NMM, New Delhi, Sri Manindra Reang, Hon’ble Minister for Tribal Welfare (TRP & PTG),Home (Jail) were among the the dignitaries present on that occasion.
    e. The manuscript owners are doing preventive conservation work at their own respective places with the help of MCC, Tripura University. The MCC is also taken up the Preventive Conservation work in different tribal villages. The students of different departments are doing post survey work with the MCC. The repositories also come to know about the preventive conservation techniques and now they are implementing it in their own houses with the help of MCC.
    f. This Workshop and Awareness Programme has been very much appreciated by the local as well all national print & electronic media such as Times of India, Anandabazar Patrika, ANI News, Tripurainfo.com etc. Few articles were published in reputed websites based on the Work of MRC & MCC in the entire Tripura State specially the Awareness Programme at Santirabazar, South Tripura District.
    g. During the workshop and specially in the Awareness Programme, participants were taught the process of how to protect their age old manuscripts from heat, humidity, fungus, temperature and biological agents, which contribute to the deterioration in the condition of a manuscript. Apart from that participants were also taught the proper methods of handling and storage of these manuscripts, which is information essential for the owner of any manuscript. The workshop also aimed at discussing the methodology adopted for conservation of manuscripts with methods such as storage, reorganization and emergency treatment of the document through use of various chemical reagents and techniques such as digitization.
  • Awareness Programme of Manuscripts:
    Also organized One Awareness Programme cum Valedictory Programme of the Five Days’ Workshop on Mog Manuscripts at Santirbazar, South Tripura on 16th of March, 2013. An Exhibition of Mog Manuscript was organized wherein different types rare and old Mog Manuscripts were shown.
  • Upcoming Programmes:
    Tattvabodha Lecture programme under “Tattvabodha” series of lecture programme of National Mission for Manuscripts, Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Prof. Nabanarayan Bandopadhyaya, Director, School of Vedic Studies, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata will going to deliver the lecture.
