Brief Profile of the Department

Department of Microbiology, University of Tripura, Suryamaninagar, established in September 2011, offers courses in Microbiology leading to M.Sc. and Ph. D. Department is equipped with necessary infrastructural facilities to undertake research in frontier areas of microbiological biotechnology. Audio-visual classrooms and advanced research laboratories with modern instruments are available for the students and scholars. Department has a fully functional computer laboratory with internet access for students. The department also invites experts from various esteemed Institutes, Universities and Industries regularly for providing adequate exposure to its students. The students are encouraged to undergo training in other universities and industry and necessary communications are initiated by the faculty of the department. The department also organizes training and workshops to train the students, scholars as well as faculty on different aspects of basic as well as advanced science.

The thrust areaof research includes biodiversity screening upto genomic identification; bioprospecting for fermented products; development of wastewater treatment systems; development of antibiofilm coatings against ESKAPE pathogens; repurposing of drugs to treat bacterial persistence; understanding bacterial response to stress.

The total intake capacity of the department is 31 students for the M.Sc. Microbiology programme.
